Nationalism. Every nation competing individually for economic, industrial and military dominance and may the best man win. What happens in Zimbabwe shouldn't affect Iceland and events in Mozambique shouldn't impact on Peru. Globalism is just a form of communism. Side: Nationalism

Nice punchline but globalism isn't just a form of communism. Capitalism isn't solely run by international competition. The mere existence of multinational corporations puts a dent in this one. With that out of the way, how come large nations aren't just a communist form of small nations? Side: Globalism

Nationalism is how we break humanity up into groups that are of governable size and cultural cohesion. Countries that are too big require governments that are commensurate, which makes it unreasonable to think a single governmental structure could be responsive to the needs of 7 billion people; the requisite size of the bureaucracy would preclude effective governance. Cultural variations require legal/governmental variations so that the manner of governance and the specific laws are a reasonable match with the culture of the governed. A global government could not simultaneously govern in ways appropriate to all of the world's cultures. Side: Nationalism
