The singularity: fact or fiction

Some will refer to it as an almighty creator, and some will still say it's science, but it will overwhelm the mind when it comes, regardless of what perspective it's seen.

Side: Fact

I mean, its a mathematical fact. Thats the problem with these concepts. The math leads there and comes out "correct". The question is whether the math can actually manifest in reality. Which to my knowledge has yet to be proven.

the models that use a singularity do seem to have some working applicability though. So working with the assumption of a singularity is getting us somewhere.

People are getting confused in this thread and I suspect it is because the OP himself is confused. A gravitational singularity is not the same thing as a technological singularity.

I was talking about the technological singularity. Where do I appear to be talking about the gravitational singularity? What gravitational singularity?

Side: Fact

A robot was smart enough to be granted Saudi citizenship.

Suadi Arabia may be Muslim but they are allied with the US (unlike Syria). So please don't call me a stupid liberal. The fact that a robot can be a citizen anywhere is good.

Hello g:

Some day, science will have ALL the answers. But, we're not there yet. So, I couldn't say whether it's fact OR fiction..

If you are certain that science will one day have "all the answers" then you are admitted that technological singularity is inevitable and thus a fact.

It is a hypothesis of what someday will happen but has not yet. That by definition makes it fiction. At least until it does happen.

What I meant to say is whether it will happen or if it won't. My bad.

Science may have an answer for most things, but we are still allowed to wonder, dream, hope, and fantasize!
