Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of people on the right who think the exact same thing about leftists. I'm not going to accuse anyone of being dishonest because I have honestly been on both sides of the fence. Your problem is that you presume that you are correct, and are uncharitable towards those who you see as being obviously wrong. Oh yeah, there was even a time when I though that there was no way an honest person could be a Christian. Yeah, I was wrong. I don't think those on the right really get just how hard/damn near impossible it is for someone who is poor, uneducated, and physically disabled to lift themselves out of poverty. They seem really insensitive towards those who are incapable of making it on their own. They don't lift a finger to help either. I don't think most people on the left realize that most of the policies they buy into are concocted by people who are intentionally trying to overthrow the government. Though some on this site continue to smear me as a liberal the truth is I am independent and moderate, and as such I find it hard to trust the honesty of anyone who trumpets a left or right ideology. The moment you try to fit every plan and every explanation into a neat simple package is the moment you start lieing to yourself and others in your quest to make it all fit. To me the difference in the left and right isn't the presence of lieing, it's the quantity and audacity of the lies. I'll wait. I'm not trawling through your posting history looking for posts you might well have edited or deleted, but you certainly have demonstrated intellectual dishonesty in our past exchanges. One difference is that rather than continue to lie, you usually stop replying. It's rare that you spend hours trying to dig yourself out of your own grave, like many other posters here. That said, I've also seen you blindly support the posts of notorious liars like Amarel and Bronto, simply because they happen to be on the right of a particular issue or debate. The actual right, or the perceived right? The actual right, conservatism, has values that are notably different from liberalism, but honest, and display some integrity - see William Buckley, George Will, Adam Smith, etc. The perceived right has no comprehension of conservatism that isn't polluted in various ways, and considering that Trump is their hero - the man that built an empire of lies - what would come more natural? @ EldonG - Sorry to parse words because I completely agree with you in the main but I take exception to your use of the phrase 'perceived right'. This new bizarro twisted version of conservatism is what it is, it's not just a perception, it's a reality. I agree with you that true conservatives are horrified at the takeover by the tea party Alt-Right barbarians. In reality they're fascists and should be labeled as such but they cower behind the label of conservatism. William F. Buckley Jr. would be horrified by them and cross the street to avoid them or humiliate them in debate. Any true conservative with a conscience like George Will has left them behind.
