No way. If we start prosecuting people because they aren't patriotic how is that any different from places like N. Korea? And who determines the level of patriotism at that point should that happen?

I agree again Mint_tea.

Absolutely not. The thought that it may just be a good idea to resurrect The House Committee of Un-American Activities or something along those lines and repeat the same disastrous mistakes from our past would be quite a difficult position to defend.

Hitler prosecuted people for not being "patriotic"! Putin is trying to prosecute an American for not being "patriotic"! One man's patriot is another man's terrorist. This is America (for the time being), our President isn't even patriotic.

Side: No we shouldn't

You should prosecute them for being patriotic. Patriotism is a fallacy the government uses when it wants people to die for its politics. It is such a ridiculous notion that it's right up there with religion. Being born in a particular place or country is not an achievement, and claiming to be a patriot while you kill patriots from another country is of course flat out stupid. You can't be a patriot while you simultaneously show a lack of respect for patriotism by wiping out other patriots.

As the great Albert Einstein once said, "Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind."

Anybody who tells you there is a credible difference between patriotism and nationalism is lying to you.

@Nomenclature, "Patriotism is a fallacy the government uses when it wants people to die for its politics. It is such a ridiculous notion that it's right up there with religion"

Exactly, it is a religion with a lower case "r" not a capital "R" however in many cases it (patriotism/nationalism) has even more devastating effects than formal religion because it is dealing entirely with the real world that actually exists and not invisible realties, a divine father figure, ect. (although Religion obviously has big claims on Real World phenomena/events also which is a massive issue). You rightly point out, Einstein talks about this in some detail in "Ideas and Opinions" and "The World as I See It". Also, as an extension of what you invoked, Einstein discusses his distain for military men and war:

β€œHe who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.”

Yet Einstein swore an oath of Allegiance to gain citizenship so going on your logic he should have been prosecuted , you really need to actually think before you type

Side: Yes we should

No one is talking about prosecuting these idiots! Quit trying to be so deceptive and painting the Right as wanting to put people in jail for expression.

The last people who censored our freedom of expression, were leftwing Liberals who censored the freedom of communities to freely choose to display religious historical symbols celebrating Christmas.

These are the Big brother control fanatics forcing their censorship on all American Communities.

No , but the " heros " who refuse to stand for the national Anthem should hand their passports back as they swore an oath of allegiance before accepting them didn't they ?
