Was Hitler an Atheist or a Christian? Were these concepts a basis for the Holocaust?

Many Christians claim that Adolph Hitler was an Atheist and an enemy of Christianity, as well as religion in general. Some even say that his Atheism was a possible reason for his actions against marginalized groups of people. Atheists often argue that Hitler was indeed a Christian and that he actually was opposed to Atheism. It is also sometimes argued that Christianity was used as justification for his discrimination against the Jewish population, possibly as a closet Atheist. Even historians are at odds as to whether he was a believer or not.

It matters not what he says he was because it was a lie no matter what he claimed.

There are millions of people in this world who identify as Christian, but they could not care less about anything the Bible actually says.

Was Hitler a Christian? Lets see what the Bible has to say about that.

John 13:35 says that we will know a Christian by their love for others.

Do you think Hitler was a loving man? If not, the Bible says he was not a Christian.

Jewish people were God's chosen people so for any person to justify killing Jews as an act for God is a liar and a moron.

We can you the same logic with people who supported slavery or no restriction abortions of viable babies.

There were slave owners who called themselves Cristians. Do you think it is loving to kill a man for merely having black skin?

Pro choice people who vote for Democrats, support no restriction abortions of viable babies God say he knows in the womb. Some pro choice people say they are Christian.

Is it loving to support killing even viable babies for any reason up to birth when you vote for the Democrat Party?

When a person calls themselves a Christian, look at their heart, not their words.

Do you think Hitler was a loving man?

Yes.. he loved children and nature. He loved his creation beyond anyone else. However he also wanted a large number of people to suffer. He is very much like the main character in the Bible who loves certain people but will gladly see billions burn for all eternity. In fact, I would say Hilter is a lesser evil.

I would say you are a lost soul who refuses to accept your own inhumanity.

These people who end up in Hell deserve what they get. They lived their lives supporting the killing of our most innocent defenseless children, yet here you are denying your guilt.

The world is made up of many selfish people who choose to live for themselves no matter the harm to the children they abandon, babies they support killing, etc. etc.

Seeing as you place all your 'faith' in the book of bullshit and you use it to judge Hitler and people who are pro abortion what have you got to say about your abortionist god you hypocrite ?

Hosea 13:16 God promises to dash to pieces the infants of Samaria and the “their women with child shall be ripped up”. Once again this god kills the unborn, including their pregnant mothers.

2 Kings 15:16 God allows the pregnant women of Tappuah (aka Tiphsah) to be “ripped open”.

And the Christians have the audacity to say god is pro-life. How and the hell is it that Christians can read passages where God allows pregnant women to be murdered, yet still claim abortion is wrong?

The bigot who hates Christians is once again preaching what he has no inderstanding of.

You are a deceiver as always. You misquoted those verses..... what a shock!

What happened in wars during that time? Men die, women die, babies die.

During those times of wars between cities, rulers many times would conqueor a city and kill it's inahbitants. These types of barbaric things still happens in Muslim nations.

God did not order the armies to do what they typically do when taking over a city.

God was saying what will happen to these people who rebelled, because he knows what happens in these wars.

It's funny you never quote new testament scripture speaking to CHRISTIANS and their faith. Nah, you try to demonize Christians with verses from old testament Jewish laws.

You always prove to be a total waste of time to debate, because your bigoted hatred blinds the truth.

It's funny you never quote the verses that speak to punishment for anyone who causes a woman to lose her unborn child.

Hey Basement Boy so if Hitler became Anti-Christian does that mean Hitler embraced being an Atheist ?????????

Side: He was an Athiest

Had Charles Martel not been victorious at Poitiers -already, you see, the world had already fallen into the hands of the Jews, so gutless a thing Christianity! -then we should in all probability have been converted to Mohammedanism [Islam], that cult which glorifies the heroism and which opens up the seventh Heaven to the bold warrior alone. Then the Germanic races would have conquered the world. Christianity alone prevented them from doing so.[6]

The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death. A slow death has something comforting about it. The dogma of Christianity gets worn away before the advances of science... The instructions of a hygienic nature that most religions gave, contributed to the foundation of organized communities. The precepts ordering people to wash, to avoid certain drinks, to fast at appointed dates, to take exercise, to rise with the sun, to climb to the top of the minaret — all these were obligations invented by intelligent people. The exhortation to fight courageously is also self-explanatory. Observe, by the way, that, as a corollary, the Moslem was promised a paradise peopled with sensual girls, where wine flowed in streams — a real earthly paradise. The Christians, on the other hand, declare themselves satisfied if after their death they are allowed to sing hallelujahs! ...Christianity, of course, has reached the peak of absurdity in this respect. And that's why one day its structure will collapse. Science has already impregnated humanity. Consequently, the more Christianity clings to its dogmas, the quicker it will decline.![7]

Hitler's occult and homosexual entanglements showed he was much more of a Satanist than anything else. Satanists and Muslims have a code by which they hold lying and deceptiveness honorable. He was raised Catholic but became progressively very Anti -Christian , he was a loving man if his devotion to Eva Braun and his dog Blondie count as such

His views regarding Jews were influenced by Christian thinking on the whole issue .

Anti-Semitism was used as a term to describe a hatred of Jews was not used until the second half of the nineteenth century, but a bias against Jews had existed for thousands of years. This resentment of the Jews as a people can be traced back to theological roots as well as practical concerns in early Europe. The most significant and accepted origin of anti-Judaism is the death of Jesus. Jews were branded as the murderers of Christ and Jesus’ followers developed a deep hatred of them. This undertone to Christianity endured over time and became an inherent facet of the religion. Later, when Jews attempted to assimilate into European societies, they faced strong discrimination and resistance. Other citizens viewed them as economic competition. In addition, negative stereotypes evolved about the Jews in relation to their association with moneylending. Christian anti-Jewish ideals influenced Hitler during the Holocaust and helped him rally the citizenry against the Jews.

Also, Hitler had support of the Christians in hating Jews, otherwise the Holocaust couldn't have been possible.

You see, it's been our misfortune to have the wrong religion. Why didn't we have the religion of the Japanese, who regard sacrifice for the Fatherland as the highest good? The Mohammedan religion [Islam] too would have been more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?[4]

I can imagine people being enthusiastic about the paradise of Mohammed, but as for the insipid paradise of the Christians! In your lifetime, you used to hear the music of Richard Wagner. After your death, it will be nothing but hallelujahs, the waving of palms, children of an age for the feeding bottle, and hoary old men. The man of the isles pays homage to the forces of nature. But Christianity is an invention of sick brains: one could imagine nothing more senseless, nor any more indecent way of turning the idea of the Godhead into a mockery. A n* with his taboos is crushingly superior to the human being who seriously believes in transubstantiation.[5]

Though I have no idea as to what is mentioned in the Bible, but I do know it with complete assurance that there is not even a single religion in this world which supports killing for one's own pleasure or for one's mad deeds. Christianity is a religion of kindness, it always preaches to be kind, honest and helpful towards others but what Hitler did did not reflect any of the concepts of Christianity. Hitler's way of brutal murdering of people was in contrast to the very fundamentals of Christianity. Whether Hitler thought himself to be a Christian or not is a question out of view as he certainly did not go the Jesus' way. Thus, I firmly believe that he was an atheist.

At least he considered himself working under the Christian God ... in his own mind. He DEFINATELY was NOT an Atheist. In Mein Kampf he said: " It may be that gold has become the exclusive ruler of life, but the time will come when man will again bow down before a higher god." 2. "Anyone who dares to lay hands on the highest image of the Lord commits sacrilege against the benevolent creator of this miracle and contributes to the expulsion from paradise." 3. "Even today I am not ashamed to say that, overpowered by enthusiasm, I fell to my knees and thanked HEAVEN from an overflowing heart for granting me the good fortune of being permitted to live at this time."

I don't see ANY way that he thought he was anything BUT a Christian ... and that's all anyone can do .... THINK they are a Christian because they follow the "rules" as THEY see them. No one gets a diploma saying they have passed the exam with flying colors ... at least not signed by "the Boss". You can only believe in your own mind, that you are. Hitler believed in his own mind that HE was.

And, yes, in his own mind, He was doing God's work with the holocaust. He believed the Jews were evil.

He definitely wasn't an atheist. He spoke of stamping out atheists. "We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out." - Speech delivered in Berlin 24 October 1933; from Norman H. Baynes, ed. (1969). The Speeches of Adolf Hitler: April 1922-August 1939. 1. New York: Howard Fertig. p. 378.

In his book, Anatomy of the SS state, Helmut Krausnick says that atheism was banned within the SS as Himmler believed it to be a form of egotism that placed the individual at the center of the universe, and thus constituted a rejection of the SS principle of valuing the collective over the individual. All SS men were required to list themselves as Protestant, Catholic or gottgläubig ("Believer in God").

"The Church's interests cannot fail to coincide with ours alike in our fight against the symptoms of degeneracy in the world of to-day, in our fight against the Bolshevist culture, against an atheistic movement, against criminality, and in our struggle for the consciousness of a community in our national life, for the conquest of hatred and disunion between the classes, for the conquest of civil war and unrest, of strife and discord. These are not anti-Christian, these are Christian principles." - Speech delivered at Koblenz 26 August 1934; from Norman H. Baynes, ed. (1969). The Speeches of Adolf Hitler: April 1922-August 1939. 1. New York: Howard Fertig. p. 386.

"And now Staatspräsident Bolz says that Christianity and the Catholic faith are threatened by us. And to that charge I can answer: In the first place it is Christians and not international atheists who now stand at the head of Germany. I do not merely talk of Christianity, no, I also profess that I will never ally myself with the parties which destroy Christianity. If many wish today to take threatened Christianity under their protection, where, I would ask, was Christianity for them in these fourteen years when they went arm in arm with atheism? No, never and at no time was greater internal damage done to Christianity than in these fourteen years when a party, theoretically Christian, sat with those who denied God in one and the same Government." - Speech delivered at Stuttgart 15 February 1933; from Norman H. Baynes, ed. (1969). The Speeches of Adolf Hitler: April 1922-August 1939. 1. New York: Howard Fertig. p. 240.

"The advantages of a personal and political nature that might arise from compromising with atheistic organizations would not outweigh the consequences which would become apparent in the destruction of general moral basic values. The national government regards the two Christian confessions as the weightiest factors for the maintenance of our nationality: their rights are not to be infringed." - Speech at Reichstag Berlin 23 March 1933; from Norman H. Baynes, ed. (1969). The Speeches of Adolf Hitler: April 1922-August 1939. 1. New York: Howard Fertig. p. 371.

"While the regime is determined to carry through the political and moral purging of our public life, it is creating and ensuring the prerequisites for a really deep inner religiousity. Benefits of a personal nature, which might arise from compromise with atheistic organisations, could outweigh the results which become apparent through the destruction of general basic religious-ethical values. The national regime seeks in both Christian confessions the factors most important for the maintenance of our folkdom.... The national regime will concede and safeguard to the Christian confessions the influence due them, in school and education. It is concerned with the sincere cooperation of church and state. The struggle against a materialistic philosophy for the creation of a true folk community serves the interests of the German nation as well as our Christian belief." - Speech delivered at the Reichstag 5 March 1922; Leo Stein (2003). Hitler came for Niemoeller. Gretna, LA: Pelican Publishing, p. 27.

He considered himself a Christian and wanted Christianity to reign over the country.

"We are a people of different religions, but we are one. Which faith conquers the other is not the question; rather, the question is whether Christianity stands or falls... We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity … in fact our movement is Christian. We are filled with a desire for Catholics and Protestants to discover one another in the deep distress of our own people." - Speech in Passau 27 October 1928 Bundesarchiv Berlin-Zehlendorf; from Richard Steigmann-Gall (2003). Holy Reich: Nazi conceptions of Christianity, 1919-1945. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. pp. 60-6

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was his fight against the Jewish poison. Today, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed his blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly, it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people. And when I look on my people I see them work and work and toil and labor, and at the end of the week they have only for their wages wretchedness and misery. When I go out in the morning and see these men standing in their queues and look into their pinched faces, then I believe I would be no Christian, but a very devil, if I felt no pity for them, if I did not, as did our Lord two thousand years ago, turn against those by whom today this poor people are plundered and exposed." - Adolf Hitler, speech on April 12, 1922

"We demand freedom for all religious confessions in the state, insofar as they do not endanger its existence or conflict with the customs and moral sentiments of the Germanic race. The party as such represents the standpoint of a positive Christianity, without owing itself to a particular confession...." - Article 20 of the program of the German Workers' Party (later named the National Socialist German Workers' Party, NSDAP)

"I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so." - Adolf Hitler, to General Gerhard Engel, 1941

"And the founder of Christianity made no secret indeed of his estimation of the Jewish people. When He found it necessary, He drove those enemies of the human race out of the Temple of God; because then, as always, they used religion as a means of advancing their commercial interests. But at that time Christ was nailed to the Cross for his attitude towards the Jews; whereas our modern Christians enter into party politics and when elections are being held they debase themselves to beg for Jewish votes. They even enter into political intrigues with the atheistic Jewish parties against the interests of their own Christian nation." - Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Vol. 1 Chapter 11

By its decision to carry out the political and moral cleansing of our public life, the Government is creating and securing the conditions for a really deep and inner religious life. The advantages for the individual which may be derived from compromises with atheistic organizations do not compare in any way with the consequences which are visible in the destruction of our common religious and ethical values. The national Government sees in both Christian denominations the most important factor for the maintenance of our society." - Adolf Hitler, speech before the Reichstag, March 23, 1933, just before the Enabling Act is passed.

Today Christians ... stand at the head of [this country]... I pledge that I never will tie myself to parties who want to destroy Christianity .. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit ... We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theater, and in the press - in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past ... (few) years." - Adolf Hitler, quoted in: The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, 1922-1939, Vol. 1 (London, Oxford University Press, 1942), pg. 871-872

There are many more examples of Hitler's religious beliefs in each of the links on this page

"Were these concepts a basis for the Holocaust?"

There is no way to know for sure, but there are definitely reasons to believe that was the case.

Hitler believed his actions were a moral cleansing that would make way for "a really deep and inner religious life." as shown here:

"By its decision to carry out the political and moral cleansing of our public life, the Government is creating and securing the conditions for a really deep and inner religious life.

"I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord's work." - Adolf Hitler, Speech, Reichstag, 1936

The reason Hitler was so popular with conservative Christians was because he wanted to restore traditional morality. "We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theater, and in the press – in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past years."

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. "In short, the results of miscegenation are always the following: (a) The level of the superior race becomes lowered; (b) physical and mental degeneration sets in, thus leading slowly but steadily towards a progressive drying up of the vital sap. The act which brings about such a development is a sin against the will of the Eternal Creator. And as a sin this act will be avenged." - Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Vol. 1 Chapter 11

Nazi Wehrmacht soldiers wore belt buckles inscribed Gott mit uns, “God [is] with us”.

"What we have to fight for...is the freedom and independence of the fatherland, so that our people may be enabled to fulfill the mission assigned to it by the Creator." - Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, pp. 125

"Only in the steady and constant application of force lies the very first prerequisite for success. This persistence, however, can always and only arise from a definite spiritual conviction. Any violence which does not spring from a firm, spiritual base, will be wavering and uncertain." - Adolf Hitler, "Mein Kampf", Vol. 1, Chapter 5

In Mein Kampf (1924-25), Hitler expressed his views on the natural world. It is clear that he saw "struggle" for survival, and natural selection based on this struggle, as crucial to the lives of creatures, as outlined in these excerpts:

“”Whatever survives these hardships of existence has been tested and tried a thousandfold, hardened and renders fit to continue the process of procreation; so that the same thorough selection will begin all over again. By thus dealing brutally with the individual and recalling him the very moment he shows that he is not fitted for the trials of life, Nature preserves the strength of the race and the species and raises it to the highest degree of efficiency.

“”By leaving the process of procreation unchecked and by submitting the individual to the hardest preparatory tests in life, Nature selects the best from an abundance of single elements and stamps them as fit to live and carry on the conservation of the species.

A person can believe in natural selection and Christianity at the same time. A lot of Christians believe evolution was guided by God.

Plus, that quote is taken out of context. You can read the whole thing here. Start on the 3rd from the last paragraph that says, "The annual increase of population in Germany..." and continue to the next page until you reach number 2 on his list.

He even says, "This correction of the Divine Will seems to him to be wise and humane, and he rejoices at having trumped Nature's card in one game at least and thus proved that she is not entirely reliable. The dear little ape of an all-mighty father is delighted to see and hear that he has succeeded in effecting a numerical restriction; but he would be very displeased if told that this, his system, brings about a degeneration in personal quality."

A little piece from 111 publishing .....

According to Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, Adolf Hitler was born into the Catholic faith. He dictated Mein Kampf to a Catholic priest. Someone listed him as Catholic on his death certificate.

In the United States the Catholic Church was a already a strong political force in the Fascist era, and played a particularly prominent role in the Democratic Party in the northern tier of states. The Democratic Party's presidential nominee of 1928, Al Smith, was Catholic. Therefore, then and in later U.S. historical views, linking Hitler to Catholicism was a no-fly zone.

I found a site listing some of Hitler's speeches where he promoted the Catholic religion or Christian religion generally, and I want to share the site with you:

The Christianity of Hitler revealed in his speeches and proclamations

Here are some of the passages I found most interesting. First is that one of the 25 points of the Program of the Nazi party says: "The Party, as such, stands for Positive Christianity, but does not bind itself in the matter of creed to any particular confession." The Nazi's saw themselves in a battle against atheist Marxism. By adopting Christianity they aligned themselves with other conservatives and with the majority of Germans. The party got its start in Munich, in Bavaria, a predominantly Roman Catholic former kingdom incorporated into greater Germany in 1871. But Germany as a whole was 2/3 Protestant. Any party wishing to come to power would need Protestant support.

In a speech given on April 26, 1933 [Hitler was appointed Chancellor on January 30, 1933, but was still consolidating his power at the time of this speech] Adolf said, "The Catholic Church considered the Jews pestilent for fifteen hundred years, put them in ghettos, etc. ... I am thereby doing Christianity a great service by pushing them out of schools and public function."

Then in a letter to the party faithful of July 22, 1933, Hitler wrote, "The fact that the Vatican is concluding a treaty with the new Germany means the acknowledgement of the National Socialist state by the Catholic Church ... the assertion that National Socialism is hostile to religion is a lie."

"We have not only brought thousands of priests back into the Church, but to millions of respectable people we have restored their faith in their religion and their priests," Hitler's New Year Message of January 1, 1934.

"Providence has caused me to be Catholic." Hitler said this in 1936.

Of course Hitler said many things to many audiences over the years, some of them in variance with each other.

Hitler was a complex character, and the Nazi Party was far more complex than its leader. Many Nazis were Lutherans, a few wanted to restore Germanic paganism. The party also attracted numerous materialistic predators who really had no religion.

But almost all the ideas of National Socialism come straight from the Catholic Church, not just the hatred of Jews. Hitler believed in the Leadership Principle. The Catholic Popes did not invent that, but they practiced it then and still practice it today.

Hitler's crusades against the Jews and communists are part of a broader stream of Catholic Church history. The Church did not criticize Hitler; it provided moral support. When General Franco started slaughtering non-Catholics in Spain in 1936, the Catholic Church approved and thereby gave the green light to Hitler's wars on the Jews and atheists.

Stalin was an atheist who killed millions of his own people in order to make the trains run on time, Hitler was neither a Christian nor an atheist but had a lot of occult and homosexual leanings. Hitler would do or say whatever seemed to strengthen his power. If Hitler did say anything sounding like he was claiming to be a Christian and you really believe Hitler was a Christian, you have to be retarded.

Hitler was no more Christian than that evil inverted broken cress which is deceitfully called a "peace sign" is Christian. Hitler did or said whatever he thought would help him gain power, and anybody who believe Hitler thought he was or actually was a Christian has to be retarded.

I find it fascinating how desperate people are to assign blame for atrocious actions on something other than the person. There is a belief he was Atheist, according to him he was not, he was in fact Catholic. So what? Seriously. So what? He was a murderer who gathered A LOT of sheep. He directed a lot of peoples hate and anger where he wanted, he was smart, he was convincing and he was cruel. Regardless of his belief we need to understand how he convinced such a large amount of people to turn a blind eye to the suffering and murder of millions. We can't let that happen again. If he was an atheist, so what? If he was Catholic, so what? People can be cruel regardless of their belief.

..... I Believe That Adolf Hitler Meant - Every Single Word That he Wrote........

Pope Pius XI gave His full support to the Fascist Party. In 1922,

He had his secretary of state send a letter to bishops forbidding priests from joining any party, and in 1926 the Old Catholic Popular Party was disbanded altogether.

Once Pius XI found out that Mussolini had gained Power. The Pope ordered his men to kneel in prayer - for a moment of prayer

Catholics and Protestants had No One in the High levels of the Religious Authority, To Speak out and Demand that the Persecution of Jews STOP.

The best EVIDENCE iS - EVEN AFTER THE WAR WAS OVER - THE Vatican, The Pope - STILL - STILL - never said a single word publicly, to Suggest that a single Person on Planet Earth do a single darn thing to help a single Jew anywhere.

NOTHING. Total Silence. And the War Was Over. The American Troops Held The Power in Rome The Germans were Done. Still the SURVIVING JEWS who needed Help, Medical Attention and Humanity. The Pope Still never said a word.

Because The Pope ( He Knew ) that he would be a Traitor and a Complete Fool to the Anti Semite CATHOLISLAMIC majority.

The Catholic and Islamic Societies literally were Trained From the Day of their Birth - To hate, spit on, detest and distain Jews.

Hitler was only Preaching the faith of the maJority of Catholics and Protestants in Italy and Germany.

Hitler was a Preacher. Filled with the Spirit. - But Which Spirit ?
